We are reviewing some of our reading strategies… They are working hard to enhance their reading skills. It is amazing to be part of their academic and social growth. You should all be very proud of their work and effort. They are making some very strong gains.

Wanted to Thank you all for coming in for our Parent-Teacher Conferences… It’s always a pleasure to take time and review our children`s progress and some challenges. Please continue to get them to read daily and it is also very important to talk about their reading.
You will find this week in the homework binder a letter explaining our next writing goal… Once all the collections are in, we will be able to start.

Here we are with our franCOPAINS (book buddies) making our snowman with baking soda and hair conditioner… They had a great time and the snowman were pretty great looking.

We are back into our normal routine and learning a lot of new stuff… regrouping in math (this is the first step before learning how to add two and three numbers), writing informational texts, reading higher level books for most of the students- hard work is paying off!

Please take time to play with the math facts up to 9+9! All of our children need to master them by the end of June. It is hard but they need to pick one strategy and put it in practice. This is hard for most of them since counting on their fingers was their way of handle it!

Good afternoon all,

This coming Monday is Family Literacy Day at our school… Therefore,we are asking our students to wear their PJ if they so desire. You will find in their homework binder a sheet with snowballs. Please get our children to fill in the name of the book they have read and cut out the snowball. Each hallway is creating a big reading snowman with all of the small snowballs. I am not expecting all snowballs to be filled Monday evening (one a day is great).

You will also find our first two math tests in the homework binder. Please sign them… Keep in mind that using our fingers is not the best strategy to learn the math facts. Good old memorization is still the best tool for this. Take time to play with the math facts nightly if possible.

It is hard to believe but we are only a month away from our second report card. It is amazing to see the academic and social growth of most children. They are reading and writing at grade level (most part). Some of our little duckings still need to learn how to take responsability for their choices – it is easier to point the finger at someone else.

I really don’t have a lot to report since we had a very short week… I am hoping to get everyone back into our normal classroom routines by the end of the week. Please take note that we are starting to memorize our math facts up to 9+9. Your help is greatly appreciated!

We are heading into the last week before our Christmas Break… We will continue to learn and to work in all subject areas. We will completing some learning in our Christmas Centers at the library. We will also write our last poems in this unit and we are still working on skip counting in math. We started to learn how to spell our high frequency words. Please be aware that the children are not expected to work on those words at home. They only need to continue reading them with accuracy.

We are in for some great fun for the last two weeks before the Christmas Break! This Monday, we are all encouraged to wear some Christmas socks or colors…You will find in the homework binder an informational sheet with everything you need to know.

We are also trying to stay in our routine(the best we can!). This Friday, it is our Chirstmas Concert. You are invited! The morning concert starts at 10 AM and the afternoon concert at 1:00. All of our children will need a tea light for our last number. You can send this in as soon as possible.

Here they are with Ms Jo and Trusty the puppet! They were having a great conversation about our rights and our responsabilities… You will find on Monday the lessons outline of the Safe program. Every week, I will send you via the homework sheet the important information about the lessons.

This coming week, we are going to write our classroom letter to Santa, continue working with understanding numbers, reading about real life things, reading and learning from our letters if we get more, working on learning our Christmas Concert song with the actions… Furthermore, this coming Friday, we are having a dance! Please read the pink sheet attached to the homework sheet. Please send in the $5 as soon as possible if your child is going. We are also going to have our monthly assembly on Friday. Like you are able to see, a very busy week ahead.
